Its been touted the greatest free show on earth and for good reason. Mardi Gras is fun-filled, excitement, revelry, pageantry, historical, traditional and so much more. Theres really no way to describe it and yet there are many ways to experience it. Each and every reveler can tell you a different story. From some locals you might hear its all about where you go and who you know. Some of the most elaborate celebrations don the most exclusive guest lists. Other popular celebrations might includes thousdands of attendees while still others may encourage you to come out to the party and bring a friend or two. The parades are the biggest free shows of all. Whether you want family style day parades or adult night-time fun. Youll find your style here.
To get ready for the big experience, youll need to know the dates. Then you need to get your plans together. Mardi Gras usually falls on any Tuesday between February 3 and March 9. Carnival celebration starts on January 6, the Twelfth Night (feast of Epiphany). But the real activity and the biggest parades take place the weekend before Mardi Gras up until the big day. Mardi Gras 2010 falls on Tuesday, February 16. It is the last day of the Carnival season as it always falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
