Edward Hynes Charter School Reviews

It's given my kids a chance to exceed more in their academic preformance. I enjoyed the activities that offers to the kids, and the involedment of the parents to the school. Hoping that soon we all be back at our original site in a new building.

In a city that has traditionally offered a wealth of poor schools, Hynes gives parents a quality option in public schools. I am particularly pleased with the French Immersion program which begins in Kindergarten. The reading program - Success for All - also builds strong skills early.

This school sways parents with the number of things it boasts and brags about on its website, but once you send your child there, you feel let down. The staff is not the friendliest bunch of people when it comes to how they receive parent volunteers. The principal is practically a ghost. She does not make herself available and she doesn't reply to emails from parents. I'm extremely disappointed. The school hasn't lived up to any of the things it broadcasts on its website. The school as a whole is operated like a dog with its head between its legs. They weren't prepared to re-open after the storm. They are more concerned with raising money to re-open in Lakeview than they are about giving the kids what they need right now.

My daughter is currently a second-grader at Hynes. She has attended Hynes since Kindergarten. She enjoys going to Hynes. She has learned a lot and continues her thirst for even more knowledge. When I pick up my daughter from Hynes, I observe how comfortable she is within her environment. Even my 4 1/2 year old son also displays a great deal of comfort when at Hynes. Hynes has an ethnically diverse student population, which I feel is a plus. Although Hynes is not a school where tests are given to enroll the cream-of-the-crop students, the students at Hynes have done just as well or better academically as those schools. This proves to me that with a dedicated principal and staff, and an effective curriculum, all children can grow academically, as well as socially. HYNES, keep up the good work!

My son enjoyed being a Hynes student. The teachers are very friendly and engaged. There are lots of extracurricular activities and clubs, such as band, chess, violin lessons, arts and a variety of sports. Students thrive at Hynes. We also want to mention the big yard, which is a plus for recess. A lot of new equipment has been added recently to the playgrounds.

Hynes is awesome. I went there for 4 yrs. the yard they have is humongous, they have two soccer fields, two playgrounds, and many trees scattered about the yard. The teachers are fun and you learn many things.
