Believers Life Christian Academy Reviews

It is time that we pray for the school. God has a plan for it and we must hold fast to His promises. There have been problems this year and we are in desperate need of a Spirit filled administrator and teachers. God will provide if we seek His face.

My son was in Pre-K for this school year and I love the curriculum and values that are instilled in him. At just 5 years old my son can write in cursive and recite Bible verses to me. He is learning manners, right from wrong, has Chapel once a week, and his behavior has improved greatly. I recommend BLCA to any parent looking for a great school with great Christian people and a place where it is still ok to include God in everyday life and things like The Pledge of Allegiance.

I am concerned why the school has had three administrators during the past years. There is something wrong and I feel that as a parent for me to ask questions is looked at as being wrong or mean spirited. I appreciate what other people have said positive about the school, but there are problems that linger and are never addressed. Maybe the leadership of the school should have an open forumn with parents so that are concerns may be addressed.

Those of us who love the school need to be as vocal as the disgruntled. One of my children and four of my grandchildren have all gone to BLCA and they received a wonderful education and the love and spiritual guidance they have received there cannot be measured. In addition to an excellent education in class, the exta help they have recieved outside of class has built their confidence and competence levels greatly.

I am proud to be a parent of the best school on the westbank. This school teachers students how to serve God and others. Students are challenged in their classes to do their very best. Our students are prepared for college. I have been so amazed this year with how much community service our students do and how well known their clubs are in the community. My child was encouraged by a staff personnel to join clubs nad make memories. I am so glad my child is at a school where students are still seen as individuals and not numbers. BLCA students are expected to achieve! Parents should take the time see the difference the administration and staff is making. Go after school on any given day and many teachers are tutoring after hours or before to help our kids do their very best. Thank you BLCA Faculty & Staff

BLCA has done an outstanding job in providing a great education for my children. The overall spiritual enviorment of the school is awesome and the academic depth exceeded all of my expectations. Two of my children have graduated from BLCA High School and recieved T.O.P.S. schoalarships. Both of them were able to choose the colleges of their choice in Louisisana. The Administration and teaching staff were all high quailty individuals that always kept my children's best interest in mind and imparted strong Christ Centered values to them. The tuition rates are comparable to other private schools in the area. The new facility is state of the art which provides a spirit of excellence. Overall I feel their motto, 'A Great Place to Learn' was a reailty for my family and I would highly recommend both the Elemmentry and High School to all Christian families in the New Orleans area.

No school is perfect! BLCA does a great job though! Teachers give students individual attention and really work with us. They show us they care. I feel I am getting a great education and will be prepared for college. I will have lots of great memories because the school gives us many opportunities to get involved in clubs and sports. Teachers pray with us and our weekly chapels help make our school awesome. I am proud of our school!

I have attend BLCA for 5 years and I find that the school is an amazing place to learn. The teachers show us as students that learning can be fun and easy. The extracurricular activities are the best. Even though we are a small school our clubs do some great things. Key club has won many awards at conventions and this year we had the Faculty Advisor of the year. The Junior high softball team won the championship game this year. I love my school and never want to go anywhere else! our students get more opportunities to shine at our school than they would get anywhere else. Teachers encourage students to get involved in sports and clubs. I love BLCA!!!

Believer's Life Christian Academy has been a Blessing to my family. Both of my daughters have graduated from this school after attending from Pre-K thru the 12th Grade. Thanks to the teachers and the staff for helping the little girls that started BLCA so many years ago become wonderful Christian Young Ladies. Signed a Very Blessed Mom!!!!!!!

It is a shame that those who have greivances, whether justified or not, speak out greatly and those that are blessed rarely speak out. Believer's Life Christian Academy is one of the best schools on the Westbank. The curriculum is challenging and prepares our students for college. The staff is loving and caring and truly wants the best for each student. Administration is constantly working to improve and provide more and new opportunities. This year they added a music program and foreign language from PK to 12. They are building a new gymnasium to provide a well rounded PE and Sports Program. The school won several national merit awards for community service. Our students learn the word of God and how to apply it in everyday life. Is it a perfect environment? Of course not, but children aren't perfect. They make mistakes. Yet, BLFC loves them all.

A couple years ago I graduated from BLCA, it was a great experience and one I will always treasure. I made some lifelong friends and share so many wonderful memories at BLCA. It is a great school, the admin and teachers really care about the families of the school. The teachers are not here just for a paycheck like at some schools, they are here for the students. The teachers do everything they can to make sure each and every student excels to there full potential. BLCA does have it share of problems but what school doesnt. I would recommend anyone reading this page to try the school out for themselves, dont be misled by all the negative comments. This is a great school and I am truly blessed to have graduated from BLCA!

Excellent school. I am a graduate of BLCA and am happy to say that I have recieved a full paid scholarship to the university of my choice. I accredit it to the academics and also the atmosphere of the school. I am very greatful to be a part of this great organization. Thank You BLCA!!!

The school has lost its focus. The leadership believes that new buildings will bring more students in. This is such a mistake. What we want is a school that is Christ centered and Spirit filled. I agree that the elementary chapels are wonderful, but the truth is that the teachers lack spiritual discernment and they don t understand their role in ministry. I remember when BLCA was on Paxton and the campus was in horrible condition. The education and spiritual environment was powerful and the school was full! If I wanted a beautiful campus, there are plenty of other choices. The heart for God at BLCA has been removed and there is no sense of Godly direction. The school leadership needs to go back and see what made the school great. They need to return to that foundation

BLCA has it share of problems. I believe that some of the parents that have written in are not realistic and others are too critical. What concerns me is the price. I have two children and educational expenses would be bewteen $11,000-$13,000, adding on sports, activities, fielf trips, etc. Other Christian schools in the area are around $6,500-$8,000. In a downward economy this is difficult. I am afraid that they have priced many of us out of the ballpark. I noticed that there are many openings this year, they may want to reconsider.

Awesome school in every way. Love the Abeka elementary curriculum and agree with what is taught spiritually in the classroom and chapel. The teachers are wonderful. It is a fun atmosphere where my children love to be. The parent association is the best this year. Kudos to all of you! PTL! Lynne B.

I am amazed at the academic and disicpline problem students that the school enrolled this year. This shows that they have serious issues with the budget. As far as the curriculum, I disagree with the statement from the previous entry. The curriculum is weak and I found that even the public school exceeds BLCA standards. The books that BLCA uses are the same textbooks that any public or private school uses! The students don't have the same quality in lab experiments, art, music, etc. In addtion, there is very little higher critical skills introduced. As far as the spiritual significance, there is none. I believe many of us fell into the trap that if we have to pay for it, has to be better.

As a former teacher at BLCA, I would not send my own child to this school. The highschool is horrific. The school lacks any discipline. The discipline department wants to try to help every kid and be his or her best friend. This school year I was told is worse and with the intern principal they have now. The school is in trouble. Nice guy, but he has no discipline! High school pretty much has new teachers every year. Obviously, teachers leave for some reason.

I am concerned about the disicpline of the school. This year things are really out of control. The bullying of students and the racial tensions are apparent. At one time the school was selective, but now they have let students come in that should have not been accepted.

This school is a joke. I am a sophmore who comes from a hispanic background. The Spanish teacher doesn't understand the curriculum. I also find the math and science departments are weak. Because of the school's policy of no tuition refunds, I will be stuck here until the end of the school year. Next year, my parents plan to send me to a school that will prepare me for college.

As a first year parent I find that BLCA is an ok elementary school, but a horrible high school. The curriculum is at a very low academic level compared to surrounding high schools. The high school is a fun school to go to, but only because it is incredibly easy and the teachers are lenient. If your child is even considering going to college, or maybe even being educated, stay clear of BLCA.

The problem with this school is that there is litte accountability.

There is no leadership stablity in this school.

The administration seems to lack functional organization. There is a high Teacher turnover rate, and many don't seem to stay at the school for longevity.

I have certainly noticed a change in the school since the hurricane. I found that BLCA was somewhat selective and followed a set criteria for accepting students, which has apparently gone away. I will keep my children at BCLA, but have lost a tremendous amount of trust in the administration. I do believe that the teachers truly care about the students, but I have experienced tremendous bias concerning certain subjects which I do not agree. The teachers are supposed to be completely unbiased and should never force their opinions on certain matters onto the children (i.e. politics, world events, society, etc.).

If you are looking for a school that is average or below then I would choose this school. I haven't been impressed with the overall academics. The spirituality also lacks, especially with the secondary grades. What really shocked me is how my 'C' average daughter became an 'A' average student this past year. This was a real eye opener. Now we feel that we have wasted a year and that she lacks the foundation for college.

This is my son's first year at BLCA and he has done very well. He had a rough road up until now and his attitude about school and life have completely changed. He has a wonderful, loving, caring 6th grade teacher. The school has opened up its arms to us and never looked back. My son can be a challenge, but they continue to love and pray for him. The academic program is right up there with other private schools we have been associated with. This school and it faculty and staff have been the best thing to happen to my son and my family. It's truly a blessing. I believe not enough credit goes to the school and/or its teachers and staff. I am thankful for BLCA.

I am concerned about many of the students that have entered into the school this year. We have noticed a change in the school for the past two years and I have been praying for direction.

We are new to BLCA this year and I have to say that the school is a God send. My daughter loves BLCA! After a bad experience in her past school last year, BLCA has opened its' door and arms to her and our family and I can't say enough about the school and teachers. I don't know what anyone could possibly complain about. I don't feel they ask for money at all. Every school out there does fundraising. BLCA's fundraising activities are so easy to do that it's a shame not to take advantage and do what you can. It only benefits your child. We will be returning to BLCA next school year. I'm actually not looking forward to summer vacation because my daughter will miss her friends and teachers so much. She truly loves school and BLCA! Thank you BLCA and God Bless You!

I am so disgusted with BLCA! All they care about is money. They make it hand over fist and still attach additional fees! I will credit the academics but for the price I paid I can still get a much better education at other private schools for equal or less money. It's not what it used to be and I am not sending my child back for another year.

When we came to the school 6 years ago I was impressed with the relationships that the administration and teachers had with my children. Now it seems that they have lost that edge. They have lost an annoiting that once was prevalent and I am concerned about the future of the Academy.

Ilove the shool. My childran wouldn't go anywhear else.

This is my first year teaching at BLCA and I am deeply concerned. Children of low academic quality have been allowed to come in because of the driving factor of finances. It makes it extremely hard to teach when children are 2-3 grades below level. I also feel that instead of treating us as professionals, we are viewed as overqualified babysitters. The spiritual dynamics are important. Likewise, the academics should also be given high consideration.

Getting through the office by phone is a nightmare. You have to listen to this voice to key in contact numbers that leads you to more contact numbers. I have sent notes to school and yet teachers and the administration never contact me. I don't like being shoved off on. I pay an exhorbarate amount in tuition and I deserve to be treated better then this.

I am so tired of hearing the complaining from the parents. Everytime I get out of the car there are at least three parents who approach me. I know that the school has some problems, but it is better to leave then to cause chaos. We have been a BLCA family for 5 years. If this year continues in the same path as it started out, I will choose another school for my child. However, it is only fair that I give the new administration a chance to clean up their act. M.B.

What was told to me as a parent and what I see are two different items. I am dismayed at what I am hearing and seeing for myself.

Too much fluff and not enough substance. This is my first year as a parent and I see that the academics are weak. I also am not impressed with the professionalism of the staff. The teachers need to check their notes going home for grammar mistakes.

It's a new day at BLCA. Our mission is to provide a college-preparatory education for our students in a distinctively Christian, faith-based environment. Through appropriate curriculum and planning, qualified teaching personnel, and the utilization of current technology and resources in our learning programs, we aim to prepare our students spiritually and academically for successful higher education endeavors...and for life. Our students, parents, faculty, and staff comprise an incredible learning team!

The education is not what it promises to be. The children have been short changed!

The teachers and administration are very caring and supportive. BLCA has been such a blessing in our life. I thank God everyday that my son is able to attend BLCA and the summer camp is awesome as well. The church well it is the best. God is so good I am so grateful to everyone there. THey truly care and are like family. Thank you BLFC and BLCA May God richly bless you. Keep up the great work. The price is so reasonable It is well worth it. They work with you it is truly awesome. I cant say enough about the school and church and everyone there Thank you Thank YOu Thank You They truly are examples of God's marvelous love. A proud parent of BLCA

I am really sad to see the negative comments about Believer's Life. Two of my grandchildren are students there and the love and special attention they received after Katrina warmed this grandmother's heart. They have received a quality education from loving teachers. It is easy to criticize from the outside looking in and it is really hard to believe that people want to trash a school that worked so hard to get back up and runnning so quickly after the storm. Our children needed to get back in school and to some kind of normalcy with so much chaos going on in thier lives. People are complaining about $200 when I know the church put up several hundred thousand dollars to reopen the school. It is also a good thing they had a new building because the old one so badly damaged that school would not have started at all.

It has been a very hard year for all of us and everyone has been under a great strain. Mrs. Day, the administrator, and Dr. Douglas, the principal, put the needs of the children before all else. Unfortunately those people who have to make the hard decisions about money are always seen in a bad light; especially by those people who are already struggling financially. We are very fortunate to have both of these people at the helm because of their devotion to the spiritual and academic well being of all the students. Anyone who has taken the time to talk to either of them knows where their hearts are.

My son just completed his 7th year with BLCA. He has enjoyed it immensely: the fast paced academic requirements were exactly what he thrived on and has a 4.0 final grade for the second year in a row. The teachers made learning fun; challenged them to come out of themselves; and were very caring. This school year posed tremendous obstacles, but the personnel were determined to have school and volunteered two weeks to make sure the doors were open on the first day of school along with the rest of Jefferson Parish. I am grateful for this as it helped bring stability back to the community. This was also a comfort and safety zone for my child from the storm related issues we faced and are still dealing wtih. Thank you Rev. Lyndi Day and Principal Dr. Douglas!

I can't believe the school's finanical policies. We were charged for a $200.00 fundraiser fee because the school elected not to have fundraisers this year. After talking to Rev. Mrs. Day, I was shocked at her contempt towards the parents. How can I support a school that has lost interest in educating our children and that no longers values the relationships of the families. My children have attended BLCA for the past 10 years but this will be there last year.

This has been a terrible year for my children and I have been forced to make the decision to send them to another private school. The atmosphere of the school community has changed. It appears that money given to the church overules the quality of the education. The school safety system of checking students in and out needs to be monitored. The place has become disorganized with the new administration.

Very saddened by how the school has changed during the past year. BLCA use to be a school that had a good reputation. Though the building is very nice, what the administration doesn't understand is that the heart of the school is no longer the same. Parental concerns are ignored and children who should not be allowed in have ruined the Christian environment.

My son had five different teachers in his class this year. The school year started out good despite Hurricane Katrina. In February, everything took a nose dive. They don't deliver what they promise.

I have been at Believer's Life for the past 5 years. Sadly, our family will not be returning. As with most private Christian schools, the long time principal was released by the pastor. Though the new principal is a nice person, there has been nothing but chaos. Drugs has entered the school and the new administration has taken students who would never have been allowed in. The vision of the school has changed from a caring, nuturing one to a business propostion. I want my child loved and cared about! I don't want him to be looked at as a financial number to float the church's budget.

Thank God we got into this wonderful school. I prayed that there would be a door open for my children. I was impressed with Pastor Daniel during the interview. He spent over an hour with my husband and me. He was very transparent and I could tell that he truly loves the students.

BLCA has been a wonderful experience for my children. The teachers spend a lot of time with students both during class and after school. They are willing to work with each student to help him or her reach their goals. I LOVE BLCA!

At Believer's Life, I have the peace of mind that when I drop my children off that they are going to be taken care of in a loving and nuturing environment. It is the best next thing to being home.

I am very appreciative of Believer's Life Christian Academy. Being a single mom I was so blessed when my daughter got the TOPS scholarship. Thank you Pastor Daniel and staff for being so good to my family.

This is really a great school! I never had any problems with the finance department and I find that they are helpful when you have a question or problem to resolve. My children are excited about the new facility that is being built. This school is growing and I am not surprised since it is one of the best schools on the Westbank.

I am very satisfied with the level of education and the disicpline structure of my child's school. The staff is very loving and caring and will do everything to address any concerns and needs.

I have been very impressed with this school. My son has consistently scored 2-3 grade levels on his acheivement test scores. They do run a tight ship and their policies are clearly written down. The only parents I have talked to that have had problems were not willing to work in the parameters that have been clearly given. This is one of the greatest schools in the New Orleans area. We love the teachers and the principal.

My biggest complaint is the unprofessional manner in which financial matters are handled. I constantly get bills for amounts I have paid. Once my children were told they were suspended because we did not pay the tuition bill. We pay thru the bank on auto each month. We had to call the bank to get them to call and prove our payment was made as we had no reciept. And the fundraising deal is a nightmare. They lose track of what you have already paid toward your obligation they force you to pay each year and send you bills for a balance you do not know.

My son had Mrs.Galatas for pre-k 4 and she is a excellent teacher and Mrs.Badon for the 4th grade and she is also a excellent teacher. But the overall teachers at this school are not certified like they tend to tell parents and this information come from the horses mouth. I would only recommend this school for pre-k thru 4th. When my son was in the 5th-6th they had more children in the class very very over crowded and this caused the children not to get the quality edu. I sent them there for.
